Golden Rice Balls ...... ( Aglaia Odorata)

After approximately 6 months of consistent growth, I am pleased to report that my Chinese Perfume Tree (Aglaia Odorata - first posted on June 6 2011) plant seems to be perpetually blooming .....a delight to both the eyes and the nose :-)) ! I am thinking of trying my hand at propagating it via cuttings when the plant gets a bit bigger and I need to prune it.  It seems a sin to prune the plant when it is growing so well and into a natural nice shape as well.  A month back I transferred the plant to a bigger pot as it  seemed to have outgrown the small pot I first planted it in.  This plant is fuss free and easy to care.  The scent the blooms give off is very light, gentle, soothing and subtle - very pleasant and refreshing. No regrets at having bought this plant at all as I just love its fragrance.

It has grown much taller now....
Golden Rice Balls  ....what  a delight to the eyes !
No petals .... just perfect spherical shaped blooms
The blooms last for a week or so .....and a new cycle begins !

My First Jackfruit

It has been some months since I update this blog ..... time  flies these days and apparently 24 hours a day, 7 days a week is just NOT ENOUGH to complete all the things I wish to do. Perhaps the fault lies in my ability to lose track of the time once I get engrossed, being inefficient and  having fallen into the bad habit of procrastination !   People often ask me how I spend my time, I suppose the simplest answer would be "huh ?".  Not that people care what I do or are really interested in how I spend my time,  just  curiosity or  perhaps just another standard social question, I suppose.  As it is life speeds by and often I wish there is a mechanism to stop time.

Aha before I rumble on, I do want to share some photos of my first jack fruit.  (see posts dated September 2, 2010 and April 7, 2011).  The fruit tree (now three years old) has now grown to more than 10 foot tall and right now I have 5 or 6  fruits all wrapped up in old pillow cases as well as plastic bags.  Yes, an old pillow case seems to be the right size to wrap up the fruit to prevent bugs from attacking the fruit.

The fruit will give off a fruity scent once it ripens   ...

Here we go ... a real beauty !
Just the right size, not too big, not too small!

This is a good fruit, very compact with fruits !

Perhaps not the right way to cut the fruit ....will do better next time
Yummy --- !
Actually the fruit took approximately  6 months to ripen - a long wait indeed.  Needless to say, we felt rather relieved that our Jack Fruit tree bears good fruits and we can look forward to enjoying more of these fruits .....!
