A Dragonfly in the Garden

Dragonflies are common sights in the garden - dainty and graceful  creatures as they flirted around  the plants and flowers.  One morning I noticed this unusual looking dragonfly which I have never seen before. At a casual glance I thought it was a bee, but on closer examination it was a dragonfly !  Unlike the butterflies, this one remained motionless allowing me to take as many pictures as I like from different angles ! Either it was oblivious to my presence or it felt that by remaining just motionless, it can escape detection ! Whatever just to be sure it was still alive,  I gently  touch its wings and immediately it took flight ....!

As usual, I surf around on the internet for an ID of this dragonfly. Although I saw a photo of this dragonfly in the http://www.malaysia-wildlife-and-nature.com/malaysian-dragonflies-gallery.html, unfortunately there was no ID for it. However, the  write up on dragonflies makes interesting reading indeed.  Much there is to know about these beautiful and elusive creatures .... and  surprise of surprises, apparently  they feed on mosquitoes (according to Wikipedia on Dragonfly)  !

So WELCOME my friend, many welcome to my humble garden, and please bring more of your friends next time ..... !!

From certain angle it looks like a bee. Weird, with the bee shape and colors on its transparent wings.

This dragonfly has unusual wings like that of a tiger's which leads me to this Rhyothemis phyllis (Tiger Glider) - check out this link:
